Annual Meeting a Rousing Success

Show & Tell Table
Great conversation, fabulous food
and an entertaining, informative speaker

The above summarizes the CBAS Annual Meeting of Members yesterday, April 13, at the North Presbyterian Church in Northside. More than 20 CBAS members, including several warmly welcomed new ones, came together for a recap of the year's highlights and preview of the coming year's activities.
Bountiful Potluck Table
It was Cecie Chewning's last meeting as Chair, and everyone expressed their gratitude for the work she has put into organizing and motivating us this year. New Officers and Board members were elected, and we thank them in advance for their service:
Chair Lou Kroner
Vice Chair Janice Kagermeier*
Treasurer Jo Diamantes

New Trustees Kevin Grace and Jeanne Taylor

Trustees re-elected Robin Henderson and Jeanne Strauss-De Groote

[Continuing on the Board, Secretary Sara Pearce and Trustee David Umbenhour]

The highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Eric Appleby, Co-founder, Designer and Publisher of Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking & Light Industrial Safety published right in Northside and lately drawing national attention.** Amid a display of Forklift issues that traced its history, Eric spoke informally about how the idea first came about and how the periodical has evolved. First created in 1994, Forklift is a lovingly designed, carefully thought out and wonderfully eccentric publication that has just released its 26th issue. Previous issues have required corkscrews to open, been inspired by discovered corrugated cardboard and a box of matches, and included hand drawn covers. The creative spark for the latest issue came when Eric discovered a 19th-century volume of recipes for perfumes and much more at a Friends of the Public Library sale. Should you need a Varnish for Artists recipe, you will want to pick up a copy. Caveat for the weak kneed: the recipe calls for 4 ounces of ground glass.

Many thanks to Eric and his wife Tricia Suit, Forklift's Managing Editor/Test Kitchen Director, for a most entertaining presention, to Robin Henderson for suggesting and serving as liaison with the meeting site, Lou Kroner and Robin for set-up, Veronica Sorcher for serving on the Nominating Committee and presenting its report, everyone who brought display items for the Show & Tell table and the numerous volunteers who helped with cleanup and kitchen duty.

Keep watching this blog for news about some very exciting programs and workshops CBAS will be sponsoring this summer and the rest of 2013.
*Thanks to Janice sending this post.
